Things are getting technical on Spring Lake this week as researchers begin a year-long study tracking radio-tagged carp to help improve our local water quality. While the fish are on the move, our Laker boys' tennis team is staying put at the top of the podium, having just secured their first-ever South Suburban Conference championship and an undefeated regular-season legacy! We’re also looking at some seasonal shifts, including the return of odd/even watering restrictions and a heartfelt farewell from Superintendent Michael Thomas as he prepares for his next chapter. Check out the "Somethin' 'Bout a Truck" family fun event and catch up with the latest city updates. Everything you need to stay in the loop is just a scroll away.

Year-long carp study on Spring Lake aimed at producing better water quality

Residents who live, fish or play on Spring Lake may reap the benefits of two organizations working together to study common carp found in the lake. The study's ultimate goal is to identify where and when carp are concentrated in certain parts of the lake, making it easier for them to be captured and removed.

The joint project will have the Prior Lake-Spring Lake Watershed District working in tandem with the Minnesota Aquatic Invasive Species Research Center (MAISRC) at the University of Minnesota. The study was expected to begin in early May and will involve implanting a small number of carp found in Spring Lake with a radio tracking device and then monitoring them for the next year.
